This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a lifeguard and professional rescuer. Upon successful completion of this course participants will be certified in ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute’s CPR Pro, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and YMCA lifeguard). Minimum age to take the course is 16 and participants must successfully complete the prerequisites on the first night of class. Sign up now; space is limited. Walk-ins are not accepted.

At the Y, we believe that the ability to swim is a critical life-saving skill for every child, teen and adult. In group swim lessons we use a variety of fun methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. Qualified instructors meet kids at their own level, help families set achievable goals, and celebrate success.
Our Swim Starters class is the perfect introduction to swimming. Sessions include 30 minute sessions over a four week period. Parent or guardian is required to attend and participate.
Members: $30 Non-Members: $50
All fall sessions will meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays for four weeks for a total of 8 classes. Each class is 45 minutes long.
Members: $60 Non-Members: $100
This is a developmental swim team designed to help the novice swimmer improve and move up to a competitive swimming program. Swim team competes in the Mid-South Swimming Conference. They will train and compete year-round. Semi-annual seasons include 5 competition meets and a championship meet at the end of each season. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels are available.
Ages: 5-18 years
A Team Advanced: It is required that the participant be able to dive off blocks, perform all 4 strokes, swim 4 laps nonstop within 2 minutes, do all turns correctly and know rules of disqualifications. The focus of this group will be concentration on technique, endurance training, starts and turns and building speed.
B Team Intermediate: It is required that the participant be at least 8 years old, have knowledge of all 4 strokes and can demonstrate them to the best of their ability, be able to swim 2 laps nonstop and must have some knowledge of correct turns. The focus of this group will be learning correct diving, turns and technique in each stroke, endurance training, building speed and learning the rules of disqualification.
C Team Beginner: It is required that the participant be able to swim across the pool (1 lap) nonstop and must be familiar with Free and Back strokes. The focus of this group will be learning all 4 strokes, learn diving, starts and turns, endurance, how meets are run, organized and participated in and an introduction to rules of disqualifications.
This program consists of a summer and a winter season. Payments can be made monthly by bank draft. Monthly fees do not include MSL fees of $15 per season (two times a year). Cost of winter and summer championship meets also not included (as meets are optional)
**If monthly team fees aren’t paid by the last day of the month you will be subject to a $15 late fee**

One-on–One lessons with a trained instructor is a great way to conquer a fear of water or to simply hone your stroke mechanics. Scheduled at your convenience and with the instructor of your choice if you prefer. All classes are 30 minutes long, sign up for as many as you want.
3 Years – Adult

We also offer semi-private swim lessons for groups of two people.

Special Needs Athletic and Aquatics Program or SNAAP offers a free safe environment for children and adults with special needs to get involved in activities that include obstacle courses, stretching, pool games, and much more. Because of much community support and volunteers, S.N.A.A.P. is free of charge to all participants.
Open to anyone in the community with a child who has special needs. Limited to 10 children per class. After the class is filled there will be a waiting list taken and families will be called as openings become available. Volunteer ratio is usually 1 to every 2 children. Parents are encouraged to watch as the children participate in the class. The classes are lead by trained staff and volunteers. Class will not be held on Fridays when schools are closed, severe weather, or holidays.
Water Based (September 1 – December 15)
45 Minutes of water exercise/play by staff and volunteers. No cotton shirts.
Land Based (January 12 – April 27)
5 minutes of guided stretching, 20 minutes of obstacle course, 15 – 20 minutes of games (parachute, relay races, Simon says, limbo, basketball, etc.), 5 minutes of cool down
Alpha Center (September 1 – December 15 & January 12 – April 27)
Children participate in strength training activities in our Alpha Center both semesters. Cardio machines- treadmill, elliptical, recombinant bike, upright bike. Strength machines- lower body rotation, upper body rotation
Open to anyone in the community with special needs. We are limited to 10 participants for the class. This hour long class is an aerobic style class with varying classes such as dance, strength training, and cardio. Classes are held in the Aerobic Room. After the class is filled there will be a waiting list taken and families will be called as openings become available. The classes are led by trained staff and volunteers.
