YMCA Am Heart

High Blood Pressure Program

YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is looking for adults with high blood pressure to take part in this program.

Blood Pressure Screenings will be conducted at the program launch at the various branch locations.

Program Launch: Monday, February 15

Time:  9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 

Fee: Free to YMCA members. Small fee for non-members.

Participants receive:

  • Personalized support from a Y Healthy Heart Ambassador.
  • Tips for maintaining cardiovascular health.
  • Easy-to-use, portable self-tracking tool.
  • Heart healthy nutrition education seminars.

Participants will learn how to use a blood pressure cuff, self-monitor and attend monthly nutrition education seminars.

Participants must meet the following criteria to participate in the program:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be diagnosed with high blood pressure
  • Must not have experienced a recent cardiac event
  • Must not have atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmia
  • Must not be at risk for lymphedema

You will start to see and feel changes that will have a positive impact on how you feel about yourself, as well as increased energy.  Also, working with a personal trainer helps take the guesswork out of your exercise.

Swedish Therapeutic Massage

The most requested form of massage, used to relax and sooth sore muscles and reduce stress and tension. Also improves circulation and flexibility.

Benefit from this luxurious and relaxing massage combined with deep heat therapy. Smooth, polished Basalt Lava Stones are heated and incorporated into your massage.

Expectant Mother Massage

To relax the Mother-To-Be given with the aid of our pregnancy pillow that completely relaxes the mother and baby during massage. This is a great way to unwind and help relieve discomfort during your pregnancy. Doctor’s approval requested.
