Lifeguard Certification – February

This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a lifeguard and professional rescuer. Upon successful completion of this course participants will be certified in ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute’s CPR Pro, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and YMCA lifeguard). Minimum age to take the course is 16 and participants must successfully complete the prerequisites on the first night of class.
Sign up now; space is limited. Walk-ins are not accepted.

Registration form is at the Welcome Center. Check email regularly for updated course information. Refunds will only be given in the event the prerequisites are failed or a 48 hour notice is given before the first day of the course.

(Prerequisite swim night and ASHI e-learning assigned)

Saturday       February  7    10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Monday         February 9     6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Wednesday    February 11   6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Friday           February 13   10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Saturday       February 14    9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

*Attendance to all sessions is mandatory.

Must have access to computer/email for e-learning modules.

Be prepared for swim sessions and classroom on each day.

The last day will include a written and water test.

Cost of Certification Course:

$200 member        $250 non-member

Swim Instructor Course

Do something amazing!

This course provides participants with the basic knowledge and skills to teach YMCA swim lessons to parent-child pairs, preschoolers, youth and adults. It includes both land and pool sessions, lesson planning, teaching methodology, class organization, class components and skills for the YMCA progressive program. The course also covers the Y’s expectations for instructors and outlines their responsibilities for teaching YMCA Aquatics classes that are student centered, values oriented and safe and effective in teaching aquatic skills.Also included in this course will be the YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant course. Participants will be trained in CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen as well as how to assist lifeguards in an emergency situation.  Register at the Welcome Center.

Happenings at Schilling Farms

Pickleball: Fall Season

Ages: Adults

Pickleball Thursday mornings with equipment and instruction provided.

Days/Times:  November 6, 13, and 20 (November 20 is last day of Fall Season)  8:30 -10:30 a.m.

Y Book Club

Ages: Adults

Join us as we discuss the book of the month, The Island. Please see Tish Lewis to get a copy of the book.

Veteran’s Day Celebration

Ages: All ages

Join us as we honor our veterans. The Collierville Middle School 8th Grade Band will be performing along with presentation of the colors and more.

Days/Times: November 11  9:30 a.m.

FREE and open to the community.


Turkey Fun

Ages: 2-5 years

Join us in Kids Corner for craft, story time, and snack. You may leave your child(ren) up to 2 hours in Kids Corner.

Days/Times: November 14  9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Cost: FREE to members


Kids Night Out

Ages: 5-12

Activities include swimming, active games, snack, and tons of fun. Bring swim suit and towel if planning on swimming and tennis shoes for active games. Pre-registration is encouraged. Children can be dropped off between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Days/Times: November 14  6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Cost: $20 for first child/$5 each additional child


Medicare Open Enrollment

Ages: 65+ years old

The Aging Commission of Memphis and the Mid-South will be at the Y answering Medicare questions an helping with Medicare enrollment.

Days/Times: November 18 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

FREE and open to the community.

Thanksgiving Potluck

Ages: All ages

Come join your Y family as celebrate thanksgiving. The Y will provide the turkeys. Bring a dish to share that will serve 8-12 people. Our special guests include the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA cancer survivor participants. Sign up in the Active Adult binder at the Welcome Center.

Tumbling and Cheer Classes

Learn basic tumbling skills, flexibility and more. Private and Group sessions available.

Private Sessions:

All ages welcome

Sessions will be scheduled on an individual basis by the instructor.

Tae Kwon Do

Ages: 9 and Up (No experience required)

Loads of fun! Traditional Tae Kwon Do for the entire family including kids, teens, and adults with an emphasis on mental and physical self-defense. Get a great workout while also learning striking, kicking, sparring, forms and instinctive self-defense. Belt testing optional. Inquire at the Welcome Center for more information, or call 901-850-9622.

7:30 – 8:15 p.m. – Tae Kwon Do 1 (Beginners and up)
8:15 – 9:00 p.m. – Tae Kwon Do 2 (Intermediate/Advanced)
