Community Involvement / Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer at the Mason YMCA

The YMCA relies on the support of our community in order to offer programs and services of the highest quality to all, regardless of ability to pay. Your generosity, through donations of time and money, help us make that possible. Many members choose to be of service to the YMCA by volunteering in a variety of capacities, including:

  • Serving on the Board of Directors
  • Fundraising
  • Participating in the Annual Support Campaign
  • Participating in special events
  • Teaching classes
  • Volunteering at facilities
  • Providing office assistance
  • Helping with special projects

Tutor

Responsibilities: Helping youth with their homework

Time Commitment: Tuesday and Thursday 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Training: No prior experience necessary; we will train. This position requires a drug test and a background check.

Job Description: English As A Second Language Teachers Aide

Responsibilities: Helping youth and adults acquire English skills

Time Commitment: Tuesday and Thursday 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Training: No prior experience necessary; we will train. This position works under the direction of the Instructor. This position requires a drug test and a background check.

Conversational Spanish Teachers Aide

Responsibilities: Helping adults acquire conversational Spanish language skills

Time Commitment: Monday and Wednesday 5 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Training: No prior experience necessary; we will train. This position works under the direction of the Instructor.  This position requires a drug test and a background check.

Career Cluster Mentor

Responsibilities: Speaking to teenagers about your career choices and your profession to encourage youth to finish high school and attend college

Time Commitment: One Saturday from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. during the school year

Training: No prior experience necessary; we will provide information.

YMCA Ambassador

Responsibilities: Calling and welcoming new members to the YMCA, filling out a survey with them, tuning results in to Membership Director

Time Commitment: A packet is prepared monthly, with new member info and surveys. You may call at your convenience, for one packet’s worth (20 to 30 members), which may take 3 or 4 hours.

Training: No prior experience necessary, we will train.

Auction solicitor or “We Build People” Campaign solicitor

Responsibilities: Soliciting auction items or donations, in person, by telephone or mail

Time Commitment: Temporary time commitment. Solicitation begins in February and ends in March. You may become involved for a short period or for the entire time. Minimum participation is a two-hour increment.

Training: No prior experience necessary; we will train.

Auction worker

Responsibilities: Setting up auction items, remaining in auction area to assist bidders, answering questions, registering bidders

Time Commitment: Temporary time commitment. Auction is held for three days only in November. Check back for details. Minimum participation is a two-hour increment. Sign up sheet is at the front desk of the YMCA.

Training: No prior experience necessary; we will train.
