YMCA Code of Conduct
The YMCA, founded on Christian principles and the promotion of healthy lifestyles, prohibits inappropriate behavior such as:
- Profanity or abusive language
- Theft of property
- Physical contact with other YMCA members
- Smoking and/or the consumption of alcohol
The YMCA Board of Management has directed the staff to monitor the activities and behavior of YMCA members. Inappropriate behavior shall be dealt with in accordance with rules regarding membership termination.
Wellness Center Guidelines
- We promote the Christian principles of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
- Wear appropriate attire for a family facility:
- Athletic shoes
- Appropriate logos
- Athletic tops covering the stomach
- No swimwear
- Age limitations:
- Wellness Center open to everyone ages 16 years and older
- Youth ages 15 and under may use the Wellness Center according to each branch’s specific instructions (contact your local branch for more details)
- Please wipe off equipment after each use.
- Please do not drop or bang weights.
- Allow others to "work in" or take turns.
- While others are waiting, please limit cardiovascular equipment workout to 30 minutes.
- Do not talk on your cell phone while in the Wellness Center.
- Please do not bring food or drink into the Wellness Center; water is allowed in plastic container with lid.
- Profanity will not be tolerated.
- Chalk is not permitted.
- All personal items and gym bags must be stored in locker rooms.
- We recommend any other personal belongings remain in your possession at all times.
- Report any violations of rules or damage of equipment to YMCA staff.
Association Pool Rules
These rules help to preserve everyone’s health and safety and secure appropriate behavior for a family environment.
Lifeguards are the final authority on all pool safety rules!
- Always walk. Running or rough housing is not allowed in the pool area.
- Young children and those who are unable to swim must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Ages vary by branch.
- You must be at least 16 years of age to enter the hot tub, steam room or sauna. The recommended maximum time in these areas is 10 minutes.
- Please shower with soap before entering the pool.
- Only plastic water bottles allowed. No glass items allowed in pool areas. Other food or drinks are not permitted in the pool area, but may be allowed in designated areas near the outdoor pool. No gum.
- Diving is not allowed in any of the pools with the exception of competitions, practices or instruction conducted by YMCA staff.
- If a class is in session, the pool being used is not open for recreational swimming. Lap swimming may be allowed in the lap lanes.
- Appropriate swim attire must be worn in the pools, decks, hot tub, steam room, and sauna. No cut-offs, street clothes, string bikinis or attire deemed inappropriate by YMCA staff.
- Parents must supervise their children. Lifeguards are here to safeguard swimmers.
- Children that are not potty trained must wear swim diapers or rubber pants when in the pool.
- YMCA staff must approve all floatation devices. No large rafts, inner tubes or other floats allowed.
- Pool lifts (where available) must be operated by a YMCA staff member.
- A swim test may be required—at the YMCA’s discretion—in order to use the slides or swim in deep water (more than chest deep).
- Water contamination may cause the aquatic areas to be cleared/closed without notice. Please understand that this in accordance with Health Department guidelines and is for the safety of everyone.
- Additional rules may apply at some YMCA branches.
Inclement weather policy
When thunder or lightning occur, all pools (indoor and outdoor), steam rooms, whirlpools, saunas and surrounding deck areas are closed. These areas will re-open 30 minutes after the last lightning is seen or thunder is heard.
Gym Rules
- Follow Code of Conduct.
- Non-marking sole shoes required.
- See your local branch for age restrictions.
- Additional rules may apply at some YMCA branches. Please check with the staff.
Child Watch Rules
For your child’s safety and well-being, please note the following:
- Children must have a valid membership card and be signed in and out by a parent or guardian.
- Child Watch ages vary by YMCA branch.
- Parents must stay on YMCA property while their child is in Child Watch.
- Parents may utilize Child Watch for a maximum of two hours per day (maximum 10 hours per week).
- Parents are responsible for changing diapers if their child is not potty trained.
- Parents will be notified if their child cries for more than five (5) minutes.
- We reserve the right to suspend Child Watch privileges due to behavior issues.
- Children may bring drinks in baby bottles and sippie cups but no food is allowed. Please write your child’s name on his/her drink. Please, no outside toys.
- If child is not walking, an infant carrier must be provided. All children must wear socks or shoes. No strollers are permitted for space reasons.
- For the health of all, please do not bring children who are sick.
