The YMCA offers membership rates reduced by as much as 60 percent

"I wouldn't be able to send my kids to the YMCA without some kind of assistance. It's got something for everyone."
—Robin B., Open Doors recipient

"The YMCA has meant a lot to me. I joined for the exercise and discovered its tremendous mission. Those of us who do have the means to make it possible for others to use the Y should do it."
—Dr. Bruce Steinhaur, professor of medicine at the University of Tennessee School of Medicine, donor and YMCA member

Many people would like to improve their health by joining the Y, but have not been able to afford the cost of membership. In an effort to encourage health and well being for individuals in our community, the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South offers an income-based rate scale. Known as the Open Doors Program, the rate scale correlates membership rates to annual household income, reducing rates by as much as 60 percent based on where the person falls on the scale. With the support of the YMCA staff, the only challenge that remains for people with incomes of less than $60,000 is personal effort and commitment.

To apply, just bring a copy of your most recent tax return and two paycheck stubs to the membership desk at your neighborhood YMCA. We'll determine your income-based rate. Once you complete the simple membership application form, we'll return your financial records and you'll be on your way to becoming a member of the YMCA family.

The YMCA is a place where everyone can belong—no matter what income.

While the Y has always offered fee assistance for those with severely limited incomes, the Open Doors Program welcomes even more people to the Y family. In 2008, we gave away $1,012,740 through this important initiative.
