Our nationally certified YMCA personal trainers are here to serve you and help you reach your fitness goals. They have the knowledge and expertise to develop a safe and effective wellness program to best address your specific needs and interests, including strength, cardiovascular fitness and flexibility. Plus, they're hired for their passion and commitment to upholding the Y's mission to help you reach your fullest potential.
The YMCA understands that everyone is not at the same fitness level, so we accommodate you at your specific level of fitness. Whether you are an avid exerciser or a beginner, you can feel confident knowing that our personal trainers ensure you are being trained in a safe environment and at a comfortable pace. We can assist you with single sessions for those who are self-motivated and just need to get started, or multiple sessions for those who need a little more motivation and coaching.
Personal training sessions are available to YMCA members only, are by appointment only (typically with a 24-hour cancellation policy), and may be provided by YMCA staff trainers only (members may not bring their own personal trainers).
$40 per session (1 hour)
$375 per ten-session package
$60 per buddy session (2 people)
$525 per ten-buddy session package

Jeff Dunn is an ISSA certified trainer and has been a member of the Nuber YMCA fitness floor staff since August 2007. As a cancer survivor since 1991, Jeff has made fitness a top priority. He has been a member of both baseball and track teams. He also works for the city of Germantown. If you are interested in a healthier new life, Jeff is ready to get you started.
Bronwyn has been a YMCA employee for 7 years and is currently the Fitness Director for Sweeney YMCA at Saint Francis Hospital. At the Sweeney YMCA, Bronwyn teaches pilates and at the Nuber YMCA, she teaches Silver Sneakers.
A former University of Memphis cheerleader, Bronwyn also received her bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from the University of Memphis. Her wide fitness background also includes being a personal trainer for 7 years, including a certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Her YMCA certifications include: Personal Fitness Program Director, Strength Training Instructor, Foundations of Group Exercise, Working with People with Disabilities, Principles of Health and Fitness and Personal Training Instructor. She is also certified in CPR and First Aid.
In her spare time, Bronwyn volunteers at JIFF, Inc. (Juvenile Intervention and Faith-Based Follow-up), where her husband, Brett, works. Bronwyn also leads an active lifestyle that doesn't include much sitting. In 2006, she and her husband Brett hiked the 2,175 mile Appalachian Trail. Bronwyn loves the YMCA and what it stands for and is ready to challenge you and help you reach your fitness goals.
Carol received her personal trainer certification through AAFA in August 2007. She is truly a "people person" who is energized and inspired by others. Carol is passionate about helping her clients reach their fitness and health goals. She believes that a successful fitness program should be vigorous, challenging, creative and fun. Carol encourages her clients to set personal goals for themselves on the wellness floor as well as for all other aspects of their lives. She is dedicated to her own good health and promotes healthy lifestyles progress for each of her clients.
Carol holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in counseling education. Physically active her entire life, Carol also teaches group exercise classes at the YMCA, including MuscleWorks, Pedal and Pump, Pilates and Toddler Time.
Carol has developed close relationships with many of her clients, students and coworkers at the Y. She feels fortunate to be surrounded by such positive people.

After joining the YMCA in 2003, Mara began taking yoga classes and discovered her love for yoga. Then she began a journey that became a second career. Mara's certifications include: AFAA Certified Personal Trainer, 200 RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher), Christ-Centered Yoga, Group Fitness Instructor through the YMCA, CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention, and OSHA trained. She also holds a bachelor's degree in sociology.
Mara has a sincere dedication to spread the benefits of exercise to all whom she meets. Her contagious smile is indicative of her belief that the mind over body concept combined with breathing techniques and the right program for you is the key to finding, improving and maintaining good health and inner peace from the inside out. She looks forward to helping you find the program that will best suit you!
When she is not having fun with her son, riding her Harley or scuba diving with her husband, Mara is working as a realtor.
Jerry, known as "Cato," has been employed with the YMCA since 2006. He started at the Nuber YMCA, but changed to the Sweeney YMCA because of his employment with Saint Francis Hospital, where he has worked for many years. Cato's full-time job may be working at the hospital, but his passion is fitness and particularly helping others meet their weight loss and fitness goals.
Cato is an Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) certified personal trainer. He is also certified through the YMCA as a strength and conditioning coach. Cato has trained a broad range of members from people wanting to get rid of those last few pounds to someone who has lost over 80 pounds. He is available to train evenings and weekends and looks forward to meeting you.
Isaac has been working for the YMCA since 2007 on the wellness floor helping members with strength equipment and their wellness questions. He is an ISSA certified personal trainer, certified specialist in performance nutrition and has his CPR certification. Isaac is very passionate about fitness and helping others and is ready to set up a training program to meet your personal needs and fitness goals.
In his off hours Isaac loves to work on cars, run and workout.
Shey Pate has worked for the YMCA since 2005. He is dedicated to helping others improve their overall health through proper diet and exercise.
Shey is an AFAA and ISSA certified personal trainer and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Fitness. Shey has specialized in personal fitness training for 12 years and currently trains at both the Nuber and Fogelman YMCAs.
Shey believes in making fitness a way of life, and he strives to keep you committed in exceeding your fitness goals and in helping to improve your quality of life. His goal is to work with you for a better you.
Ronda was a YMCA member for several years before she became interested in training and teaching. She attended several classes and is an avid cycler and runner. In 2008 Ronda received her personal training certification through AFAA, YMCA certifications for Y-Cycle and group exercise, and SilverSneaker and CPR certifications. She teaches Y-Cycle, Pedal and Pump and several youth classes for the YMCA.
Ronda is committed to educating the whole family on living a healthy lifestyle. She hopes to help you reach your wellness goals.
Michael has trained clients all over the country, spending much of his time in Texas and California before returning to Memphis in 1988. As a result of Michael's total body and mind approach to physical fitness, many of his clients have become fitness professionals and/or competed professionally. Michael has studied extensively in the field of sports nutrition, which allows him to guide his clients in all areas of healthy living.
He holds a Personal Trainer Certification since 1994 through NFPT, 2006 Advanced Weight Training Specialist, Endurance Training Specialist, Sports Nutrition Specialist and Master Fitness Trainer Certification.
Michael's aim is to bring into union his client's desires and goals through understanding, balance, determination and one-pointed focus, along with the inner realization that total mental, emotional and physical fitness ultimately determine quality of life.
In addition to personal training, Michael has been a professional studio musician for more than a decade and continues to play drums and guitar for various bands across the country.
Eric works as a personal trainer and on the wellness floor at the Sweeney and the Nuber YMCAs to help members with equipment and wellness goals. He has his personal training certification through NSCA and is CPR and AED certified.
Eric has a bachelor's degree in exercise & sports science and is working toward a degree in radiologic technology. His hobbies include basketball, track, working out, playing saxophone and watching sports.
Eric can help you with your fitness goals and will put together a program to fit your present and future needs.
