COVID-19 Guidelines

Welcome Back!

We are are so excited to have you back at the Y. Before you come for your first visit, check out some of our new policies and procedures.

Please review the following protocols that have been implemented for your safety:

  • Health Screen is required: Both staff and members will receive a health screen upon entering the building. You must pass the health screen to be able to check into our facilities.

  • Clean Your Hands: Upon entering our facilities and before exiting our facilities, you will be asked to wash or sanitize your hands.

  • Face Coverings: At the Y, we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all participants, members, and staff. Throughout the pandemic, the Y has been on the frontlines and has been a leader in our community in providing these safe environments for all. We are working diligently with the Shelby County Health Department to follow and implement the latest guidelines as outlined in Health Order and Directive No. 15 and the Mask Directive No. 3. Therefore, after receiving clarification from SCHD, we will require face coverings to be worn at all times in the facility, except while swimming. This applies to all of our YMCA branches in Shelby County. (Any medical exemptions are case-by-case determinations. Please see the Center Director for clarification.)

For all other YMCA branches, masks will be required in common areas, while checking in, and at all times when it is not possible to keep a 6 ft distance from others not in your household.

  • Self-Scanning: Members will be asked to self-scan to allow for limited contact entry. No transactions will be available at the Welcome Center to reduce the number of individuals in our lobbies and reduce staff/member interaction. Members will also be asked to check out of our facilities so that we can keep an accurate measure of our occupancy. Occupancy will be limited based on CDC guidelines.

  • 6FT Social Distancing Policies: All individuals in our facilities will be required to follow social distancing practices and maintain a 6 feet distance from other members and staff. Signage will be prominently displayed in our facilities to help bring awareness to this requirement.

Increased Social Distancing Measures For YMCAs In Shelby County:
We know that time and distance are significant factors to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Everyone in the facility will be required to continue all social distancing practices and must maintain a minimum of 6 feet or more distance between themselves and others at all times. In an abundance of caution, we will increase the social distance requirements for all small group and group exercise classes to a minimum of 8 feet, and when possible to 10 feet. In addition, we are encouraging our instructors to take their classes outside when possible. This is in accordance with the Shelby County Health Department Health Order and Directive No. 15 and applies to YMCAs in Shelby County including: Church Health YMCA, Cordova Family YMCA, Fogelman Downtown YMCA, Millington Family YMCA, Ric Nuber YMCA, and the YMCA at Schilling Farms.

  • Access May Be Restricted in Certain Areas: All open areas inside the Y have been evaluated and redesigned where necessary to help ensure social distancing between members. This may mean that some areas and equipment will be closed in order to allow for social distancing.

  • Limited Time In Our Facilities: Members will be required to limit workouts to 45 minutes, following guidelines from our local government and health officials.

  • Wipe Down Equipment:  Help us reduce the risk of exposure by wiping down all equipment, weights, mats, etc. with the provided cleaning materials before and after your workout.

  • Expect Reduced Capacity: To ensure proper social distancing, our wellness areas will have a limited capacity. At times of full capacity or if there is a line at our welcome center, you will be asked to wait in a designated area until space is available. Look for floor markers that will mark 6FT spacing in waiting areas.

    Check Center Capacity

  • Reserve Spots in Group Exercise, Child Watch, and Pools: Due to reduced capacities, we will limit the number of participants in Group Exercise, Child Watch and our swimming pools. You will need to register for a spot to reserve your place.

Doing Your Part To Reduce the Spread:

  • Remember to Stay Home if You’re Sick: Members should stay home if they don’t feel well. The CDC and state public health officials encourage seniors and members of vulnerable populations, including those with underlying health conditions, to stay at home.

  • Bring a Towel, a Mask and a Water Bottle: Members will be asked to bring their own water bottle and a workout towel (if needed). The Y also requests that members bring a mask and wear it whenever possible, especially in common areas where other members are present.

  • Limit Your Visit: At this time our branches will not be able to process any transactions at our facility Welcome Centers to reduce the number of individuals in our lobbies and to practice safe social distancing by reducing the staff/member interaction.

If you have a question about your membership account, please contact our Customer Support Center instead of visiting our facilities. Due to a high volume of calls we suggest emailing customer support at customersup[email protected]. If you need to speak with someone over the phone, you can call our Customer Support line at 901.766.7677 between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday - Friday.
