What You Need To Know Before You Come To The Y

Welcome Back!

We are beginning our Phase 1 reopening plans on May 11 for all branches in Tennessee, except the Davis Family YMCA and Sweeney YMCA. We will also be reopening our Olive Branch Family YMCA in Mississippi. The Oxford YMCA will reopen on May 13, 2020.

Our reopening will include new policies, limited operations, and a reduced number of people that can use our facilities.

Before you come for your first visit:

Please review the following protocols that have been implemented for your safety:

  • Health Screen is required: Both staff and members will receive a health screen upon entering the building. You must pass the health screen to be able to check into our facilities.

  • Clean Your Hands: Upon entering our facilities and before exiting our facilities, you will be asked to wash or sanitize your hands.

  • Face Coverings: We recommended that you wear a face covering/mask while in our facilities for your protection and others. Our staff will also be required to wear protective face coverings. Face coverings are required at our Church Health YMCA location to enter the Crosstown Concourse.

  • Self-Scanning: Members will be asked to self-scan to allow for limited contact entry. No transactions will be available at the Welcome Center to reduce the number of individuals in our lobbies and reduce staff/member interaction. Members will also be asked to check out of our facilities so that we can keep an accurate measure of our occupancy. Occupancy will be limited based on CDC guidelines.

  • 6FT Social Distancing Policies: All individuals in our facilities will be required to follow social distancing practices and maintain a 6 feet distance from other members and staff. Signage will be prominently displayed in our facilities to help bring awareness to this requirement.

  • Access May Be Restricted in Certain Areas: All open areas inside the Y have been evaluated and redesigned where necessary to help ensure social distancing between members. This may mean that some areas and equipment will be closed in order to allow for social distancing.

  • Limited Time In Our Facilities: Members will be required to limit workouts to 45 minutes, following guidelines from our local government and health officials.

  • Wipe Down Equipment:  Help us reduce the risk of exposure by wiping down all equipment, weights, mats, etc. with the provided cleaning materials before and after your workout.

  • Expect Reduced Capacity: To ensure proper social distancing, our wellness areas will have a limited capacity. At times of full capacity or if there is a line at our welcome center, you will be asked to wait in a designated area until space is available. Look for floor markers that will mark 6FT spacing in waiting areas.

What You Can Do To Help:


  • Stay Home if You’re Sick: Members should stay home if they don’t feel well. The CDC and state public health officials encourage seniors and members of vulnerable populations, including those with underlying health conditions, to stay at home.

  • Keep the Kids at Home: We are unable to provide our child watch service at this time and recommend you do not bring children and other family members with you as common area seating will be extremely limited.

  • Bring a Towel, a Mask and a Water Bottle: Members will be asked to bring their own water bottle and a workout towel (if needed). No other personal belongings will be allowed i.e. gym bags, backpacks, etc. The Y also requests that members bring a mask and wear it whenever possible, especially in common areas where other members are present.

  • Limit Your Visit: During this phase our branches will not be able to process any transactions at our facility Welcome Centers to reduce the number of individuals in our lobbies and to practice safe social distancing by reducing the staff/member interaction. We will be able to process transactions over the phone and by email beginning May 11, 2020.

Phase 1: Limited-Service Operations

To continue to follow guidelines on social distancing from the CDC, we will only be opening our Wellness Floor areas for personal workouts only during Phase 1.

This includes access to our treadmills, free weight areas, cardio equipment, and walking tracks areas.

No Group Exercise Classes, Personal Training, Aquatics/Pool Access, Childcare, or Showers or Locker Room access will be available. Restrooms will still be available for use.

All branches opening on May 11th will operate with the following schedule:

Monday - Friday
6:00 AM - 10:00 AM   Wellness Floor Open for Use
3:00 PM - 7:00 PM     Wellness Floor Open for Use

All locations will be closed on Saturday and Sunday. 

As an extra precaution, branches will be closed daily for mid-day cleaning in addition to our increased cleaning procedures throughout each shift.
