Y Achievers

 Achieving Dreams and Reaching Destiny

The Y Achievers program motivates youth to succeed.

The Y Achievers Program is designed for the development of youth grades 6 - 12. Y Achievers is one of the National YMCA Signature Programs designed to address the Achievement Gap while nurturing the potential of every youth and teen. The Y Achievers Program also engages parents with monthly parent sessions along with family and community events. The Y Achievers program serves Shelby County Schools.

Middle School Achievers

Focusing on development of life skills, improving self-image, career exploration and peer mentoring the Middle School Achievers furthers the foundation of Youth Achievers and choices for success.

Teen Achievers

Participants learn job and college readiness skills, prepare for high school graduation and explore careers. In addition, academic improvement and service learning are major focuses.

The Y Achievers program objectives are

  • To provide role models and mentors whose success and knowledge will inspire youth.
  • To expose youth to diverse career options
  • To raise academic standards and improve college readiness
  • To help youth develop a positive sense of self.
  • To build character and increase positive assets of youth.
  • To create channels for continuing community involvement by business and industry.
  • To recognize and promote excellence among youth participants and adult volunteers.

The Y Achievers program benefits

Youth are motivated to succeed in school and gain marketable skills. Adults are recognized by their peers as achievers and are given the opportunity to serve as role models for youth. Companies are provided with a way to support urban youth, which enhances their corporate image and helps build a future workforce of competent, motivated young adults.

Teens are exposed to the world of work and behavior required in the marketplace.

Teens develop their talents and leadership skills.

Adults are recognized by their company or organization as Achievers and are given the opportunity to serve as role models for teens.

The program addresses the needs and concerns of the community and creates an impact, specifically in traditionally underserved communities like Black and Latinx communities.
