Virtual Learning Academies in 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians:
You may have heard that local news outlets reported that the Department of Human Services essential worker assistance program, which covered the cost of care for essential workers in Virtual Learning Academies across the state, will expire on December 31, 2020.

This program has given the YMCA the opportunity to offer our Virtual Learning Academies free of charge to your family, and we know that this may cause concern as you look toward the new year. Rest assured that the YMCA will be providing childcare and that you will have access to high-quality, affordable childcare in the new year.
The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is committed to working on behalf of the children and families in our community. We are working quickly to mobilize all of our resources to find alternate funding options with the State and we are hopeful, based on the progress that has been made in such a short time. In addition, our teams are working with community stakeholders and other philanthropic partners to seek funding to ensure that there is not a gap in childcare as we work through potential solutions with the State.

Our childcare leadership team is working very hard to complete our plan for January 2021 and finalize site locations, registration, and more, based on this new information, and to provide convenient options for families. In the event that funding cannot be secured to provide these services to families at no cost, the Y will provide families with fee-based options that include tiered pricing, financial assistance, and support to access the State child care certificate program.

In the coming days, as we have more information, we will continue to communicate our next steps and dates for re-enrollment via email, text, and on ymcamemphis.org.

We know that this uncertainty can be difficult, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we work quickly to provide you with all of the information. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve you and your children and know that we will continue to provide unwavering support for your family through these challenging times.
Thank you,
