YMCA TEEN ACHIEVERS
YMCA Teen Achievers hosted their March Career Cluster focusing on Civic Engagement and Philanthropy. In a collaborative effort
with Amazon’s MEM8 Team & The Memphis Ambassadors Program, our Y Achievers packaged hundreds of hygiene products that
will be donated to the Calvary Rescue Mission and other local area organizations. The Y Achievers youth lead this service project
to be able to give back to their communities while also leading over 50 MAP 9th-10th graders, exercising their leadership skills.

Tyler Hoey, a student at Whitehaven High School, received the Outstanding Youth Award at the recent YMCA Annual Celebration on March 28th awarding him with a $5,000 scholarship to the college of his choosing. A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD CHAIR"POSITIVE CHANGE HAPPENS WHEN WE WORK & DREAM TOGETHER"
A few weeks ago, YMCA of Memphis and the Mid-South held the largest Annual Celebration event in its 169 year history. Almost 500 people gathered at the Renasant Center in downtown Memphis to hear meaningful stories of impact and inspiration. As we heard messages from Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Memphis Mayor Paul Young, among others, we were reminded about the help and hope our YMCA gives to the cities and communities we represent. It really was one big party. A joyous day to celebrate the positive changes that can happen when people work and dream together. In 2023, our YMCA served over 250,000 people across the Mid-South through a variety of programs and services, the most lives reached on record. With this expanded footprint, our YMCA was able to grow its mission in ways never before imagined. Through our partnership with surrounding school districts, our YMCA provided care for over 15,000 students at more than 160 sites last year. In addition, our Y supported early education for 715 infant to preschool kids to ensure they have the literacy foundation needed to start kindergarten. Our YMCA also provided more than 2,000 teens a safe place to learn and connect through programming we are committed to scaling this year to reach even more adolescent youth. Through our YMCA’s food service program, 1.9 million meals were packaged and distributed to children and families in the Mid-South who otherwise would not have eaten. The beautiful new Georgette and Cato Johnson YMCA opened in 2023, giving more than 5,000 of our neighbors in Whitehaven a place to be healthy and strong. And, if all of this is not enough, our YMCA taught over 2,865 kids how to swim and be safe around water. However, I believe our YMCA’s biggest accomplishment last year was the $5.8 million dollars provided in childcare, membership and program subsidies to make certain our services are available to all. None of these achievements are possible without the commitment of our team, board of directors, members, partners and donors who give immeasurable amounts of time, energy and dollars so our YMCA can fulfill its promise of creating lasting impacts for individuals and families. I appreciate each of you for believing in the heart of what we do at the YMCA and for being difference makers in the lives we serve.
