What is Y On The Fly?The Y on the Fly program delivers a YMCA without walls programming experience directly to communities outside of the Y’s current service areas and allows us to serve more neighborhoods and more children than ever before.

EDUCATION & READINGUnits contain a mobile library where children will get to pick a book of their choice to take home, helping to increase the child-to-book ratio. Volunteers provide 1-on-1 tutoring in literacy. In addition, enrichment programming is provided in the areas of S.T.E.A.M. |

HEALTHY MEALSEvery child is served a healthy meal or snack, which consists of fresh fruits & vegetables. Volunteers and children get to share a meal together in a food truck dining experience that promotes relationship building among participants. |

HEALTH & SAFETYY on the Fly delivers a Safety Around Water Program to every child, teaching the necessary skills for children to be safe in and around water. A core component of the program includes games and activities that teach children the importance of physical activity and fun. |

IMPACT & SUSTAINABILITYWe use a network of volunteers to deliver these critical services through corporate partners, churches, and individuals. A network of community partners helps provide extended services around health, dental, vision, and education. These services also extend to the child's family. |

Although the poverty rate in Memphis has been declining since 2016, 39% of children in the city still live in poverty. This is the second-highest rate of childhood poverty in the nation for cities with more than 500,000 people. What’s more, a fragmented citywide transportation system can make getting to a YMCA, library or grocery store more difficult than it should be. Transportation is a key social determinant of health, and a lack of transportation may lead to poor health outcomes.
The Y on the Fly program helps address this gap by meeting kids in the neighborhoods where they live and play in places like schools, apartment complexes, childcare centers and afterschool programs.
